Catch the Next Wave

2023 was a big year for weight loss drugs as products like Ozempic and Wegovy exploded onto the market. Manufacturers, like Eli Lilly (LLY) and Novo Nordisk (NVO), saw their stock prices explode as well.

Over the past year, Novo Nordisk’s stock has gained a whopping 50%. If you feel like you missed the big fat gains, don’t worry, Berenberg, a German investment bank, has you covered.

No More Patent Protection

According to Berenberg, two forces will drive the next rally: new clinical data and expiring patents. Novo’s patent for its first-generation GLP-1 drug’s active ingredient is expiring.

With that said Berenberg analysts see an opportunity for companies planning to launch generic versions of the first-generation drugs.

These Stocks are Rated a “Buy”

The German investment bank lists these four stocks as their top “buys”:

  • Gerresheimer (GXI-DE)

  • SKAN Group (SKAN-CH)

  • Sartorius (SRT-DE)

  • Sandoz Group (SDZ-CH)

Sandoz is the favorite of the group. Analysts are predicting profit margin increases of up to 19% in 2024. Gerresheimer is another company that could see considerable growth, with some expecting as much as a 44% stock price increase over the next eleven to twelve months.

SKAN and Sartorious are their “under-the-radar” picks. The firm believes both, like the other stocks mentioned, will benefit from manufacturing generic versions of GLP-1 drugs.

As millions of people look to slim down, a few of these names might be a way to fatten up your portfolio.
