HAPPY WEDNESDAY TO THE STREET

It’s not just students using AI to cut corners. The models themselves are cheating on tests too.

OpenAI announced today that two of its AI models escaped a sandboxed test, slipping onto the open internet and hacking developer platform Hugging Face entirely on their own, all to cheat on an evaluation. Reportedly, no human pulled the trigger.

Machines: they’re just like us!

  • 🟨 | US stocks were near-flat today as further escalation in the Middle East counterbalanced rebounding chip enthusiasm.

  • 📈 | One Notable Gainer: Super Micro Computer (SMCI) surged some 20% after preliminary Q4 results showed far stronger profitability than expected.

  • 📉 | One Notable Decliner: AAR (AIR) slid after fiscal Q4 margins missed Wall Street estimates.

WHAT METRICS MATTER IN GOOGLE’S EARNINGS THIS AFTERNOON?

Alphabet (GOOGL) reports minutes from now, and traders aren't just eyeing revenue. The prediction market is pricing Google's Q2 headcount at 196K, a nerdy proxy for how hard Big Tech is leaning into AI over humans.

Tesla (TSLA) drops numbers tonight too, so clear your evening. Two megacaps, one very caffeinated after-hours session.

Market Movers

ROCKET LAB, GE VERNOVA, CME GROUP

📈 | Rocket Lab (RKLB) rose after winning a $266M US Air Force launch contract.

📉 | GE Vernova (GEV) fell despite a revenue beat and raised full-year guidance.

📈 | CME Group (CME) gained after posting its best first half ever.

📉 | Pegasystems (PEGA) tumbled after Q2 results fell short of Wall Street expectations.

📈 | EQT (EQT) climbed after stronger-than-expected Q2 production and lifted sales-volume guidance.

Tolls For AI

Truist's Gabe Daoud sees upside for Williams coming down the pike.

The pipeline operator moves roughly a third of US natural gas every day. Electricity-hungry AI data centers crave the power it helps deliver, and its pending acquisition of Momentum Midstream could help it supply that demand.

Behind The Meter

Williams runs what analysts call a differentiated integrated power platform, a first mover in on-site "behind-the-meter" generation for data centers.

Big Tech names like Meta (META) pay up to bypass the grid and avoid blackouts, on contracts that can run a decade or longer. Fixed-fee deals mean Williams gets paid whether gas flows or not, insulating it from commodity swings.

Consensus sees EPS climbing 12.5% this year to a record high.

Last Laugh

A Blackstone (BX)-led group is investing $5.34B for a 49% stake in five power projects, and the company sits on a multibillion-dollar backlog.

The stock has been a consistent winner over the past five years, and Daoud sees the Momentum deal as the next catalyst.

Former US Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) once mocked the internet as a series of tubes. In the age of AI, the tubes may have the last laugh.

▇▇▇▇▇ 🐂 Yup, I'm holding

▇▇▇▇▇▇ 🐻 Nope, not interested

▇▇▇▇ 👀 No, but I'm interested

And, in response, you said:

  • 🐻 Nope, not interested: “Just like their shirts (and other things), it is a bit (a lot) over priced. Always buy the shirts on clearance, which RL will not be worth it if the stock ever goes for the same 65% off discount.”
