HAPPY THURSDAY TO THE STREET

ChatGPT just got a fitting room. OpenAI launched virtual try-on globally, letting users upload a selfie to preview clothes and hunt down celebrity outfits, turf Pinterest (PINS) and Google (GOOGL) have owned for years. Small problem: Google rolled out try-on last year, which makes OpenAI's hottest new look feel a little… last season.

Thrifty Business

A shaky economy spells trouble for most retailers. Loop Capital thinks it spells opportunity for Dollar Tree, upgrading the discount chain to Buy.

Analyst Anthony Chukumba sees the current US macro backdrop as a strong setup heading into the holiday season. Sagging consumer confidence should send more shoppers through the door, he argues. Bad vibes, good business.

Pruning the Family Tree

Chukumba also likes the company's multi-price initiative, calling it a sustainable driver of comparable store sales growth.

Then there's the cleanup. Dollar Tree bought Family Dollar for $9B in 2015 and finally sold it last year for $1B. With that chapter closed, the company has freed up capital and stepped up share buybacks. Sometimes the best family decision is cutting one loose.

Loop De Loop

Wall Street isn't fully sold. Of 29 analysts covering the stock, 15 rate it a Hold and 10 a Buy or Strong Buy.

Shares have slipped over the past month as gas prices climbed and spending power faded. But Loop Capital is betting that the tighter wallets get, the more Dollar Tree cashes in.
