TOMORROW’S TRADE IDEA, TODAY

Will Bitcoin Come Back to Earth?

Bitcoin’s Big Day

In the days since Donald Trump’s election victory, Bitcoin has notched several fresh record highs. But its moonshot may be just beginning.

Several analysts believe that Bitcoin could hit the $100,000 mark by the end of the year. CoinShares’ James Butterfill said the rally — which has already seen Bitcoin’s price surge 38% in the past month —  could be further helped by a Republican-controlled Senate.

Trump made supporting cryptocurrency a huge part of his campaign, and promised several pro-crypto initiatives. Most market observers anticipate a favorable regulatory framework for Bitcoin and crypto under the next Trump administration.

Mine, Baby, Mine

One such initiative is Trump’s pledge to begin building up US reserves of Bitcoin using seized digital assets. The President-elect also promised to bolster domestic Bitcoin mining, and said he wants to mine all of the world’s remaining Bitcoin in the US.

A prolonged upward trend under Trump would have some historical precedence. Another analyst, Copper.co’s Fadi Aboualfa, noted that Bitcoin reached two all-time high cycles between 2016 and 2020 — both during Trump’s previous presidency.

Beyond Trump

Butterfill believes there are other catalysts for Bitcoin beyond Trump’s proposed policies.

These include a change in SEC leadership, which will likely occur under Trump, as well as ongoing institutional adoption. Bitcoin’s most recent bull cycle occurred following the approval of spot Bitcoin ETFs launched by several financial giants, including BlackRock (IBIT) and Fidelity Investments.

It takes a lot of power to propel something to the moon — but some analysts believe Bitcoin might finally have the momentum needed.
