Thought Leader Hot Take

In sourcing finance memes and thought leader hot takes for our Saturday Street Tweets round-up today, we stumbled across an eye-catching bit of Twitter analysis.

Andrew Wilkinson, founder of private-equity firm Tiny, trumpeted data-center operator IREN $IREN ( β–Ό 9.57% ) as a β€œPicasso at a garage sale”. He argues the company’s power footprint β€” more than 2,900 megawatts, by his back-of-the-envelope calculations β€” could make it one of the largest AI data center players in the world. His price target, $300, implies a cool 625% upside from today’s close.

Of course, on Wall Street, the road to hell is paved with PE bros’ informal PTs. But as it turns out, Wilkinson isn’t the only market observer with IREN on his radar β€” and some bull cases have more going for them than β€œjust math”.

Assets That Stand Out

Arete Research initiated coverage of IREN this week with a Buy rating and a $78 price target, implying 86% upside from today’s close. Not quite 625% β€”Β but nothing to scoff at either.

The firm agrees that IREN, which started as a crypto mining company, can convert thousands of megawatts of power across its US facilities into AI-ready data center capacity. It also noted IREN is taking active steps to fund its own data-center expansion and broaden its capacity.

Earlier this week, the company said it had doubled its AI cloud capacity by procuring 12,400 new GPUs. Management plans to operate with 20,000 GPUs in the near-term, but up to 60,000 in the long run β€” and they have a recent track record of overdelivering. IREN’s $187 million in revenue last quarter was up sharply from prior periods, and its earnings exceeded expectations by $0.02 per share.

Running Hot

IREN $IREN ( β–Ό 9.57% ) is becoming one of 2025’s most-watched AI infrastructure stocks. The stock is already up about 300% year to date, fueled by data-center hype, after being named one of Nvidia’s $NVDA ( β–² 0.28% ) β€œpreferred partners” last month.

As with many AI plays, the risks are glaring: strong competition or a cooling cycle could dramatically slow growth.

But given IREN’s ambitious roadmap and cosign from the biggest company in the sector β€”Β not to mention the world β€” even the most bullish case may well be within the range of outcomes.
