Bank of America is seeing the light on Ciena.

Analyst Tal Liani reiterated his Buy rating and hiked his price target to $550, a catch-up move after the stock more than doubled this year.

He called Ciena the heart of an "optical super-cycle," funded by hyperscalers opening their wallets.

With $7 billion in backlog and AI data-center spending accelerating, Liani sees two engines for growth: raw bandwidth demand across AI and non-AI compute, plus a massive 2026 to 2028 buildout.

Ciena's market share in 800G ZR pluggables is projected to climb from roughly 30% in 2025 to at least 50% in 2026, while the underlying market grows tenfold.

Ciena trades at more than 70x forward earnings, which would normally send value investors for the exits. But Liani argues the multiple is fair given the pace of future growth.

The stock is already sharply up year-to-date, but BoA thinks optical is just coming into focus.
