Tomorrow's Trade Idea, Today

AI GOES NUCLEAR

A New Power Source

Centrus Energy $LEU ( ā–¼ 0.18% ) may not be front of mind for most investors. But it’s central to the nuclear power bull thesis.

The US has seen a sweeping attempt to expand its nuclear power capabilities to meet the soaring electricity demands driven by AI data centers. Evercore ISI $EVR ( ā–² 0.65% ) believes Centrus could help lead the way.

The firm initiated coverage of the stock with a bullish outlook, assigning it a 12-month price target of $145 — an upside of more than 50% from today’s close.

ā€œMust Ownā€ Momentum

Evercore went so far as to call Centrust a ā€œmust-ownā€ stock for investors looking to profit from the intersection of tech and energy.

Centrus occupies a rare and arguably vital role in the nuclear supply chain. Formerly known as the US Enrichment Corporation and part of the Energy Department, the firm was privatized in 1998 and remains the only publicly traded company focused on nuclear fuel enrichment.

It’s also the only US-licensed producer of high-assay low-enriched uranium, which powers next-generation small and micro nuclear reactors. An increasing number of market observers see these reactors as the future of clean energy.

Expanding Its Moat

Evercore analyst Nicholas Amicucci emphasized Centrus’ durable competitive advantage, noting that its existing utility contracts stretch through 2040.

Many companies are set to build innovative nuclear facilities in the near future, and all of them will depend on a reliable fuel source. Providing this fuel source is an area where Centrus maintains a deep moat, particularly within the US market.

As the global race to expand nuclear capacity heats up, companies like Centrus — which has the unique capability to supply enriched uranium — may well stand out.
