HAPPY THURSDAY TO THE STREET.

The latest AI derivative play: dad hats.

AI culture has inevitably given way to AI status symbols. Fans swarmed Anthropic's viral NYC pop-up and quickly picked it clean of embroidered "thinking" caps. But that's only the latest AI collectible to blow up.

From OpenAI’s token plaques to Fluidstack’s LEGO GPUs, tech bros everywhere are embracing the brands behind the AI boom, not just their stocks. Which leaves me wondering: if AI really is a bubble, and the bubble bursts, what will retain more of its value? Nvidia $NVDA ( ▲ 1.83% ) shares, or Anthropic merch?

  • 🟥 | US stocks slipped today, with the DJIA leading declines as the S&P and Nasdaq pulled back from fresh highs, pausing gains while the shutdown dragged on.

  • 📈 | One Notable Gainer: Shares of beer and cannabis company Tilray Brands $TLRY ( ▲ 22.09% ) flew off the shelves after it posted a surprise fiscal Q1 profit.

  • 📉 | One Notable Decliner: Ferrari $RACE ( ▼ 14.99% ) fell behind after cutting its 2030 target for fully electric cars to 20%, down from 40% previously.

Finally, read to the end for a post that’ll make you wish you’d been online in 2010…

Tomorrow's Trade Idea, Today

BETTING ON A COMEBACK

Odds In Its Favor

Vegas odds haven’t been kind to DraftKings $DKNG ( ▲ 3.59% ) lately. Its stock has plunged some 30% since late August amid concerns that prediction markets like Kalshi and Polymarket could steal market share from traditional sportsbooks.

But with the moneyline on the move, Berenberg Capital Markets now believes DraftKings has become a safe bet.

The investment firm upgraded the stock to Buy from Hold, saying the recent pullback may be overdone. Analyst Jack Cummings’ new price target of $43 implies about a 22% upside from today’s close.

Overreaction or Opportunity?

Cummings believes prediction market fears are misplaced, noting that “no impact on numbers has materialized so far”, while the legal landscape remains uncertain.

The analyst went on to call the sell-off excessive, especially given DraftKings’ recent fundamentals. He added that Berenberg still sees room for upside as investor sentiment stabilizes.

While Berenberg trimmed near-term forecasts due to recent sports results, Cummings said the company’s underlying business remains sound. DraftKings continues to post strong user growth and expanding profit margins — a key metric as the online betting market matures and competition consolidates.

Betting on the Home Team

DraftKings remains primarily focused on the US market, which Cummings sees as both a challenge and an advantage.

Without heavy international exposure, the company was hit hardest by the recent sell-off. But it also stands to benefit most from continued legalization and growth in domestic online wagering, according to the analyst.

Looking ahead, Berenberg expects DraftKings’ profitability to improve as marketing expenses normalize and hold rates remain stable. For investors willing to look past short-term volatility, Berenberg believes the stock’s sharp correction could represent a more attractive entry point than it has had all year.
